YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, WYOMING

Yellowstone is a volcanically active area in northwest Wyoming. Even though the area looks quiet it actually has a violent past. Yellowstone is known as a "supervolcano". Just a mile and a half below the surface lies a giant magma chamber. The geothermal activity in the park tells us exactly what lies beneath. The eruption of the Yellowstone caldera happened about 200000 years ago. The next eruption may happen within the next 50000 years. Below you will see pictures of geysers and other geothermal features of the park.
