On 3 February 1931 a 7.8 magnitude earthquake shook the town of Napier. When the city of Napier was being rebuilt, this is when the Art Deco type of architecture came into being. The Art Deco architecture is the main attraction in Napier. For more information please go to Art Deco Napier website.
